+ JULY 2016 +

sAINT BENEDICT, ABERTILLERY AND SIX BELLS:

The good work in the Mission Parish goes faithfully and quietly on. More Masses are offered than the ones listed. Sometimes Father Flynn stays overnight with Catrina and family, and then there is a second Mass next day. The listed June Mass was on Monday, 6th at 6pm, when thirty eight were present, a good contingent from Ebbw Vale and Tredegar. Needless to say, one of Abertillery's lovely bring-and-share suppers followed! There was also a brief meeting to discuss plans for the rest of the year. Renee Peterson from Usk was present and has invited everyone to Usk for the Feast of Saints Julius and Aaron of Caerleon on July 4th . (More of this below) There was also Mass at Six Bells on Sunday, June 19th , Fifth after Pentecost. Mrs Churchill reported thirty six present, some again from Ebbw Vale. During the following Buffet Lunch, talk of Weston-super-Mare came up, some people saying they'd not been there for years! Well, you'll soon be there, because Catrina is organising a day trip, by coach, for Saturday 23rd July!! That is a week before the listed Abertillery July Mass on Saturday, 30th at Noon. It is the Feast of Saint German. The Collect, Secret and Post-Communion of the Eleventh after Pentecost will also be included. The Ebbw Vale people are, as ever, invited – as they are to the Weston day trip!

SAINT SEBASTIAN, SHEPHERDS BUSH:

On the subject of day trips, Eileen O'Connor and the Mission committee at Shepherds Bush are organising a day Pilgrimage to Walsingham. Dates are still to be finalised, so if anyone is interested, please contact Eileen asap. Saturday, 30th July, and Saturday, 6th August are the most likely dates: it's a question of which would suit most people. Bishop Anthony has agreed to accompany the pilgrims. The listed June Mass was early in the month on Wednesday, 8th at 7pm. It was followed by Benediction, then a delicious summer Buffet Supper. Groups from Battersea and Holborn were present. There was also Solemn Mass on Sunday, 26th , Sixth after Pentecost, at Noon. There was a good congregation of forty, some of our other Londoners supporting, as usual. The listed July Mass will be sung on Thursday, 21st at 7pm, and followed by Supper and a Mission meeting. There will also be Solemn Mass on Sunday, 10th July at Noon (Eighth after Pentecost). The Hampstead service that day will be Low Mass and Benediction at 7pm, please Note. The Shepherds Bush Mission has its own monthly news sheet. Sincere thanks to Alan O'Rourke for his stalwart efforts in producing it.

SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD:

The ArchConfraternity always keeps this wonderful Feast, on July 1st , with due Solemnity. The London Mass will be at Hampstead at 6pm, and followed by a bring-and-share supper. Fr. Flynn says he is offering two Masses on July 1st : Brecon at 11am, and Tredegar at 6pm. Norah and Mary say that all are welcome. For other Masses please consult Clergy & Guardians.

Let us also remember that the Feast of the Precious Blood is still kept at Westminster Cathedral because it is their Consecration Title. Please pray that day for the Clergy of the Cathedral and those who worship there.

THE SOLEMNITY OF SAINTS CYRIL AND METHODIUS:

This major Feast falls on Thursday, 7th . In the Czech Lands it is an Holyday of Obligation. These Notes are translated every month into Czech, and, of course, despatched to our Czech Parishes by email. All our Czech Parishes also produce their own monthly or weekly news sheets. In London there will be Pontifical Solemn Mass at Hampstead at 7pm, when Bishop Anthony will say the Canon in Czech. The prayers after Mass will also be in Czech. We shall remember, on that day, our dear Cardinal Archbishop, Dominic Duka, who has shown us such great kindness over many years. All our Czech Parishes (recognised as Parishes!) will obviously offer a Solemn Mass on July, 7th.

Father Vojen, at Pardubice, will offer Solemn Mass at 10am in our Chapel-of-Ease, then there will be Sung Mass at our factory chapel at Semtin. This will be at 6pm, and followed by a special ‘sit-down' supper in the factory canteen. The ladies who cook and serve in the canteen are now good friends of the Parish, and they will also partake of the supper!! Father Zezulek will sing Solemn Mass at Bila Hora, Prague, at Noon. This will be inevitably followed by a Buffet Lunch. At Havlickuv Brod the main Mass will be sung at 11am, and followed by a Parish Picnic, should the weather be fair. The Metropolitan hopes to be with you all again in the early autumn. Will our British Faithful please always remember our Czech people in your prayers.

OUR LADY, STAR OF THE SEA, HOVE:

Our Palmeira Avenue Masses are sometimes hosted at the home of Ken and Lucy, and at other times by kind invitation of Rachel and Phillip. The ArchConfraternity Notes have never mentioned this because our people obviously know in advance where to go! And we also owe a debt of deep gratitude to Mrs Mary Powell at Portslade for all she has done since she discovered us a couple of years ago. It's hardly possible now to think of “Hove” without Mary's stirling contribution!! At time of writing, the June Mass on Monday, 27th has yet to take place. We will report on the following High Tea at a later date!! The July Mass will be offered at 2pm on Tuesday, 12th . This will be back with Ken and Lucy at Palmeira, and we do hope that a good number of our Worthing and Midhurst people will be able to come.

DO PLEASE KEEP THOSE SECOND CLASS STAMPS COMING!!

They are a source of real income to the ArchConfraternity, helping tremendously with the postal bill for the despatch of the monthly Notes. As we continue to stress, many of our older Faithful don't have access to a computer (and thus to our Web Site) and really do rely on the “old fashioned word” as a vital means of communication. Particular thanks to all who sent stamps during recently. Do PLEASE send a July Offering for The Precious Blood. Cheques should be made payable to “ The ArchConfraternity of Our Lady of Victories ” and sent to Bishop Anthony at the address at the top of the Kalendar, or to Mr. Simon Gibbs, ArchConfraternity Treasurer:

Gibbs & Co., Blackwell House, Guildhall Yard, London,EC2V.5AE.

God will bless you.    Holy Mass is offered monthly for all our benefactors.

ALL ON THE SICK/INTERCESSIONS LIST ...

have asked us to pray for them. Please do!! In fact Mass is offered for everyone on the List on a regular basis. If you know of names that should be added, do tell us.

OUR LADY OF PENRHYS, RHONDDA:

It is July, and the great Feast of Our Lady of Penrhys, Patroness of Wales is nearly here – as is a most overdue Pilgrimage by Bishop Anthony to our Rhondda Faithful. The Feast falls on Sunday, 17th July, and is of Obligation throughout the ArchConfraternity. It is in the Missal as “Sancta Maria in Porticu”. In Treorchy there will be Pontifical Solemn Mass at Noon, followed by a special Buffet Lunch, and then the annual Pilgrimage to the Shrine at Penrhys, for those able to climb! Benediction will be later in the day. Will our South Wales and Monmouthshire folk tell Glenys and Eve if you propose to come. Penrhys is, of course, the Welsh part of the Metropolitan's Episcopal Title. May Our Lady of Penrhys keep us ever safe, in her maternal bosom! More Masses are offered in the Rhondda than those listed. Please consult Fr. Flynn, Glenys or Eve for details. Every Wednesday there is Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at Eve's Llantrisant house – this includes Benediction whenever Father Flynn is able to be present.

SAINTS JOHN FISHER AND THOMAS MORE, ROCHDALE:

A Reminder to all our Lancashire folk that the Rochdale Patronal is also coming up! It is on Saturday, 9th , and hopefully the weather will be good. We do ask you all to gather for the Solemn Mass at Noon. Celebration Lunch follows!! Father Flynn will be in residence till the following Wednesday and there will be daily Mass till then – and time for Confessions too!

SAINT DAVID LEWIS, MONMOUTH AND USK:

One of our important Monmouthshire Feasts is that of Saints Julius and Aaron of Caerleon (early British Martyrs). There will be Solemn Mass at Usk at 6pm, and Renee hopes as many as possible will come (Monday, July 4th ). Bring-and-Share Supper to follow. Providing the weather is decent, Supper will be outdoors! Will other local Guardians please be in touch with Renee? Fr. Flynn will also sing Mass at Usk on Saturday, July 16th at Noon: Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

SOLEMNITY OF SAINT JAMES, APOSTLE:

This is always kept very solemnly in the ArchConfraternity.

July 25th this year is a Monday. All Masses should be followed by the Blessing of the Sea Shells and prayer for the King of Spain. There will be Solemn Mass at Hampstead at 6pm. St. James was himself a pilgrim to Spain, bringing the Spanish people the Christian Religion. Please pray on the day for Fr. Emilio Tundidor, and his Mission of Our Lady of Hope, Lynmouth in Devon, as well as for the Clergy and people of Spain. +
