AN APRIL DEVOTION ON EASTER HOPE IN JESUS CHRIST
The tomb is empty. It is a silent witness to the central event of human history: the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ. For almost two thousand years the empty tomb has borne witness to the victory of Life over death. With the Apostles and Evangelists, with the Church if every time and place, we too bear witness and proclaim: “Christ is Risen! Raised from the dead, He will never die again; death no longer has power over Him!” [Romans 6:9] Yes, the Lord of Life was dead: now He reigns, victorious over death, the Source of Everlasting Life for all who believe. Yes, dear friends, Christ loves us, and He loves us for ever! He loves us even when we disappoint Him, when we fail to meet His expectations for us. He never fails to embrace us in His mercy. How can we not be grateful to this God Who has redeemed us, going so far as to accept the foolishness of the Cross? ...Grateful to God Who has come to be at our sided has stayed with us to the end? In washing His disciples' feet, Jesus anticipates the humiliation of His death on the Cross, by which He will give Himself in absolute service to the world. He shows that His triumph and His glory pass through sacrifice and service: this is likewise the path of every Christian. There is no greater love than that of giving ones life freely for ones friends. (John15), for love saves the world, supports society, and is our preparation for eternity. In this way you will be prophets of a new world. May love and service be the first rules of your lives! By sacrificing yourselves, you will discover what you yourselves have received, and you will, in turn, receive the gift of God.
Do not let the sight of the world in turmoil shake your confidence in Jesus. Remember His words: “Be brave, for I have conquered the world.” Let no temptation discourage you. Let no failure hold you down. There is nothing that you cannot master with the help of the One Who gives you strength.
[Hope in Him: Pope John Paul II]
Let us pray: Mary: give us Jesus, Thy Divine Son, day by day! Heavenly Father: grant that we may know Him, follow Him and love Him in our Resurrection joy! For Christ is our Hope Who lives with us, in our midst, and in His Church! With the Church Militant in earth we proclaim: “Even so, Come Lord Jesus!” May the hope of glory which we experience in the Resurrection, and which Christ pours into our hearts, bear full fruit, and bring at last peace to our suffering world. For His Name's sake. Amen.
And a Passing Thought

At that time : JESUS stood in the midst of His disciples and saith unto them: Peace be unto you. It is I, be not afraid. Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; handle Me, and see, for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as you see Me have. And when He had thus spoken, He showed them His hands and His feet.......He said unto them: Have ye here any meat? And they gave Him a piece of broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. And when He had eaten before them, He took that which was left, and gave it to them. And He said unto them: These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the law of Moses, and in the Prophets, and in the Psalms concerning Me. Then opened He their understanding, that they might understand the Scriptures. And said unto them: Thus it is written, and this it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day; and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His Name among all nations. [The Gospel according to Saint Luke. Chapter 24]
Let us pray : Grant, we beseech Thee, Almighty God: that we who celebrate the Divine Sacraments of the Easter Season, may, through Thy bounty, ever hold to them in our life and conversation. Through the same, Thy Son, our Lord and Redeemer Jesus Christ, Who died and rose again for us. Amen
