JUNE DEVOTIONS IN THE MONTH OF SACRED HEART OF JESUS

A Contemplation on the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus

The Eucharistic Heart of Jesus is implicitly bound up in the love which our Saviour bears for us in His most Sacred Heart. That Sacred Heart which loves us beyond our imagination and which was pierced for us on Calvary. The Eucharist is itself the greatest sign of Christ's love for us because He actually left us Himself at the Last Supper. The Most Holy Sacrament is truly Jesus Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity; so when we consume our Saviour, we literally take into ourselves His Sacred and Eucharistic Heart. It is the highest, most precious gift from our Living, Risen Lord. Pope John Paul II puts it thus:

The Church draws her life from Christ in the Eucharist; by Him she is fed and by Him she is enlightened. The Eucharist is both a mystery of faith and a mystery of light. The Eucharist is light! In the Word of God constantly proclaimed, in the bread and wine that have become the Body and Blood of Christ, it is precisely He, the Risen Lord, who opens minds and hearts, and makes us recognise Him. If, in the presence of this mystery, reason experiences its limits, the heart, enlightened by the grace of the Holy Spirit, clearly sees the response that is demanded, and bows low in adoration and unbounded love. Jesus comes to us in the Eucharist so that we will live forever. Holy Communion is the Bread of eternal life. It is something more precious than gold or silver. It is worth more than anything you can imagine. For this sacred bread is the Body and Blood of Jesus. And Jesus promises that if you eat His Flesh and drink His Blood, you will have life in you, and you will live for ever. This precious Eucharistic Gift comes to us because of the burning love Jesus has for us in and through His Sacred Heart hence the pure joy we should experience in the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus. The Eucharist is the Sacrament of the presence of Christ , Who gives Himself to us because He loves us. In the Eucharistic Sacrifice, we can enter into contact with the Person of Jesus in a way that is mysterious but real - drinking at the inexhaustible fountain that is His life as the Risen Lord.

Let us pray : Dear Jesus, forgive our many sins and direct our steps on the path of goodness. In the Eucharist, Thou hast made Thyself the Medicine of Immortality: give us, we beg Thee, the taste for that full life in Thee that will help us journey on as trusting and joyful pilgrims on this earth, our gaze fixed ever on Thee and Thy promise of life without end. For Thy mercy's sake. Amen.

And a Passing Thought

Things are at rest when they are in their proper place. The proper place for the heart of a human being is the Heart of God! {Saint Augustine of Hippo}

SACRED AND EUCHARISTIC HEART OF JESUS: HAVE MERCY UPON US!

WE ADORE THEE AND BLESS THEE, LORD JESUS: IN THY EUCHARISTIC HEART!

O SACRED HEART: OUR TRUE HOME LIES DEEP IN THEE AND THY MERCIFUL LOVE!

Let us pray : We beseech Thee, O Lord: that as the receiving of Thy precious Body and Blood in this life, doth foreshadow the everlasting fruition of Thy Divinity: so Thou wouldest make us to be fulfilled with the same. Who livest and reignest with the Father and the Holy Ghost, world without end. Amen.

At that time: Jesus said unto the multitude of the Jews: My Flesh is meat indeed, and my Blood is drink indeed. He that eateth My Flesh and drinketh My Blood, dwelleth in Me, and I in him. As the living Father hath sent Me, and I live by the Father, so he that eateth Me, even he shall live by Me. This is that bread which came down from heaven. Not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead. He that eateth of this bread shall live for ever. {The Gospel of Saint John. Chapter 6}

Down in adoration falling. Lo! The sacred Host revere.

Lo! O'er ancient forms departing: newer rites of grace are here.

Faith, our outward sense befriending: Makes our inward vision clear.

LORD GIVE US EVER: THE SWEETNESS OF THY EUCHARISTIC HEART!
